Welcome to The Bronx High School of Science Attendance Office web page.
You will find information and forms here concerning attendance and biographical information. The Attendance Office is located in the front of Room 029.

Procedure for Documenting Absences From School

1. When a student is absent from school, the parent/guardian must email the Attendance Office at absence@bxscience.edu before 9 A.M. to report the absence. Please include your child's name, OSIS number, and reason for absence.  Note that if you are unable to send an email, you may call 718-817-7762 after 8:30 A.M.

2. A Bronx Science absence note, signed by the parent/guardian must be brought to the attendance office before the student’s first class on the day of return.  If a doctor treats the illness, a doctor’s note should be attached to the absence note. A doctor's note is also required if a student is absent for 3 or more consecutive days.  The Bronx Science Absence Note can be printed by clicking on absence note.

3. Part A (top portion) of the absence note must be brought to the Attendance Office (Room 029) immediately upon return to school. Part B (bottom portion) of the absence note should be signed by student's teachers and retained by student for future reference.

4. Absences are reported to parents by computer generated phone calls on the day of occurrence. If parents/guardians are unaware of the absence, they should email or call the Attendance Office.

Absence From A Class - Cutting

Cuts are defined as absence from a subject class on a day on which the student was present in school.  A "cut" is generated when the student is present in school and marked absent from a subject class.
  • Clearing Cuts:  When a student is marked cutting in error, a cut correction form must be completed by the student and given to the teacher.

Change of address or biographical information

New York City
law requires that each school maintain up-to-date biographical information for each student.  It is imperative that the school is able to contact you in the event of an emergency and that important mail is able to reach you.

Any change in address, telephone #, E-Mail or any other biographical information must be reported to the school - room 029.  This can be done by completing the Biographical Change Form and the Blue Data Collection Form.  Proper documentation must be included with the forms.

Please note that every time biographical information is updated, we require a new Blue Data Collection Form.
