George Yancopoulos '76

George Yancopoulos is the co-founder, President, and Chief Scientific Officer of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals.

Under Yancopoulos’s leadership, Regeneron has broken new ground in the ability to manipulate mouse DNA to enhance drug research. The company has developed six FDA-approved drugs and has become one of the most admired companies in the fields of pharmaceuticals and biotech. Yancopoulos is one of the most cited scientists in the world.

Prior to the founding of Regeneron in 1989, Yancopoulos was an assistant professor in Genetics at Columbia, where he had earned his M.D. and Ph.D. He was the valedictorian of his class at Columbia, as he was for his class at Bronx Science.

Yancopoulos has been an active and generous alumnus since his graduation, and under his guidance Regeneron took over sponsorship of the national Science Talent Search in 2017.
