Howard M. Jonas '74

Howard Jonas is a entrepreneur and executive in telecommunications and a host of other fields, including media, energy, and pharmaceuticals. He is also an active philanthropist and has written three books.

Jonas founded IDT Corporation in 1990. The company was a pioneer in the fields of prepaid telephones and Voice over IP (VoIP) communications. Jonas also founded Genie Energy, an energy company that supplies electricity and natural gas and explores unused shale and oil. Jonas is the author of three books: On a Roll; I’m Not the Boss, I Just Work Here; and Faith and Depression. ​ Prior to his career as an entrepreneur, Jonas graduated from Harvard with an A.B. in Economics in 1978. A native of the Bronx, he graduated from Bronx Science in 1974.
