Jill Bargonetti ‘80

Jill Bargonetti is a Professor of Biology at Hunter College and a Grantee at the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Her research focuses on finding breast cancer treatments, including the use of the precision medicine approach. Her work on the p53 protein, a driver of triple negative breast cancers, has led the way toward more personalized therapies for breast cancer. For her work, Bargonetti has received numerous recognitions, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, presented by Bill Clinton in 1997.

Dr. Bargonetti earned her Bachelors degree at SUNY Purchase in 1985 and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from NYU in 1990. She has been a Professor at Hunter since 1994.

She spent two years studying dance at Alvin Ailey before deciding to pursue a career in science.
